Frequently asked questions

  • Currently, we are hosting all one-on-one sessions in our neighbourhood in Uxbridge.
At the beginning of your initial session, Hanna will assess your dog and give you a clear understanding of why they are behaving the way they are, and what they need in order to feel confident in themselves and in you. Hanna will show you how to read your dog’s body language so you can always interpret how they are feeling. She will then show you relevant training exercises (in a first session, we start with foundational leash work, handler engagement, and crate/place work).

In a follow-up session, Hanna will continue coaching you through training exercises and your communication with your dog. We generally introduce some of our own dogs in follow-up sessions, who will work as support for your dog, whether they are working on reactivity, aggression, socialization, etc.

  • We ask clients to book a minimum of 2 appointments: one foundational session, and one follow-up. After 2 sessions, you will have the foundational skills you need to set your dog up for success moving forward. In some cases, we will recommend additional sessions for best results. We also encourage participation in some of our other services such as group classes, socialization session, or day camp, to help your dog continue to thrive.

  • We recommend all clients crate train their dogs. We love crate training because it gets your dog comfortable with being apart from you, and gives them the chance to relax completely in their own space.

We also recommend all clients’ dogs have their own bed or raised cot.

For any dog that poses a bite risk, we require clients to acclimate their dogs to a secure muzzle.

During sessions, we introduce the slip leash as a training tool, as part of leash exercises which teach your dog to follow and yield to you (essentially, building cooperation with their handler).

  • Trick question! Training is not a quick fix or something that is ever done/completed, it is a LIFESTYLE. We will show you how to meet your dogs needs so that they thrive with you, and then it’s up to you to continue giving them what they need to flourish moving forward. We offer lifetime support to clients via email, and are always happy to re-book with clients who need help brushing up on training or getting back on track.

  • Prior to booking a board and train we require a private session with us to start, during which we will assess your dog and give you a training plan to implement before they come to stay with us. We will introduce training with a slip leash, as well as crate training. For all dogs who may be a bite risk, we require clients to get them comfortable wearing a muzzle. With these elements in place, your dog will adapt more easily to our environment so we can get to work much quicker.

  • Our board and train program will accelerate your dog’s training but it is NOT a quick fix. Ultimately, a dog’s behaviour will be influenced  the most by whoever they spend the most time around, which is their family. What we do during board and train is create a solid training and socialization foundation for your dog, which will fast-track your progress with them. While your dog is with us, we will work alongside you to create a training plan moving forward, and then we will follow up with sessions to keep you on track once your dog is back home. We offer lifetime support through email/text, as well as space in our day camp for ongoing socialization and training support.
